Welcome to Legal Type, a free tool for practicing typing speed and accuracy using bar exam rule statements. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms.
1. What Legal Type is (and isn’t)
Legal Type is a study and typing-practice tool. It is not legal advice, not a substitute for a bar preparation course, and not a guarantee of exam performance. Rule statements are simplified summaries written for practice purposes; they may be incomplete, outdated, or jurisdiction-specific, and you should not rely on them for any legal matter or as authoritative statements of current law.
Legal Type is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected tothe State Bar of California, the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE), or any commercial bar preparation provider. “MBE” and other exam names are used only to describe subject areas.
2. Honor code
Legal Type tracks your personal performance statistics based on trust. By using the app, you agree not to use scripts, bots, auto-typers, or other automation to inflate your statistics, and not to misrepresent your results. We may reset statistics or remove accounts that violate this, at our discretion. It’s a free typing app — please don’t cheat at it.
3. Your account
You are responsible for your account and for keeping your login credentials secure. You must provide accurate information and be at least 13 years old to use the app. You may request deletion of your account at any time by emailing us.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer the non-public portions of, or gain unauthorized access to the service; not to scrape content at scale; and not to use the app for any unlawful purpose.
5. Intellectual property
The app’s design, code, and original content belong to Legal Type. Statements of law are public domain; our particular arrangement and presentation of practice content is ours. You may use the app for personal study without restriction.
6. The service is provided “as is”
Legal Type is free and provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the app at any time without notice.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Legal Type and its creator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of the app, including reliance on any content, lost data, or exam outcomes. Our total liability for any claim is limited to $10 (the app is free; there is no revenue to claim against).
8. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we use it. It is part of these terms.
9. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected in the date above. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in California.
